Laguna Beach, CA — Laguna Beach had their second consecutive home game this Friday night. This week they were playing the Orange Panthers and their dual threat quarterback, Star Thomas. After a big return on the opening kickoff, the Panthers started on their own 47 yard line. After two first downs, Thomas found an open receiver, and scored in a 35 yard Touchdown pass. LBHS had a good drive, with 3 big runs by sophomore Charlie Christian, however the Breakers turned the ball over on downs. With their second possession, Orange drove from their own 30 yard line to midfield, where again Thomas was able to find an open receiver for a 55 yard touchdown So once again, Laguna found themselves behind at home. A good kickoff return gave Laguna the ball around midfield. They drove to the Orange three yard line, when Quarterback Jack Hurst found Brady Stringham on a crossing route for a Touchdown. The Breakers were unable to contain Orange on their last drive of the first half, leading to a halftime score of Orange 21 LBHS 7 The second half started with both teams, unable to move the ball efficiently on their first two possessions each. On Laguna‘s third possession of the second half, Jack Hurst was able to find Brady Stringham for 21 yard touchdown pass cutting the score to 21-14 Laguna had a good drive going, with the ball inside the red zone when a fumbled ball cost them possession. Orange drove the length of the field capping off the drive with a 7 yard touchdown run up the middle. With time starting to wind down, Laguna got the ball again and Charlie Christian broke a 70 yard run down to the Orange 3 yard line. 3 plays later Jack Hurst again found Brady Stringham in the end zone to cut the deficit to seven points. Laguna‘s final possession did not lead to any points and Orange was able to run out the clock to win the game with the final score of Orange 28 Laguna 21.
