Laguna Beach, CA — On Friday night, the Laguna Beach Breakers football team hosted rival Dana Hills for a Delta League matchup. Laguna received the opening kickoff and were unable to move the ball and punch it to Dana Hills. The Dolphins drove down field but were stopped short of a touchdown and forced to kick a 37 yard field goal. Neither team was able to do much on offense on their next few possessions, but in the middle of the second quarter, Breakers quarterback, Braden Hansen found James Nugent open on the left side line for a throw and catch that Nugent ran down to the 2 yard line. Two plays later Hansen kept the ball himself around the left end for the go-ahead touchdown. Unfortunately, for Laguna, the defense was not able to stop the elusive Dolphins running game. The Dana Hills running back went 46 yards up to middle before the go-ahead touchdown. With the score now Dana Hills 10 Laguna 7 and time winding down in the first half Dana put together a drive and saw the ball down to the Laguna 2 yard line. On first down the quarterback kept the ball ran up the middle, untouched, to make the score at halftime Dana Hill 17 Laguna 7. The Breakers were unable to move the ball effectively in the second half, and Dana Hills added a pick six for a touchdown and a 75 yard catch and run to make the final score Dana Hills 31 Laguna Beach 7. Players of the game for Laguna Beach would be Xavier Brooks for outstanding play on the defensive line, Greyson Kazmouz for the same defensive battles, James Nugent for outstanding play on both sides of the ball Christian Hamelberg, Braden Hansen and Ryder Bright, all freshmen, for stepping up and filling in the spots needed for Laguna Beach. Next week, Laguna is at home against Western High School with our Senior Night game.
