MARAUDERS RALLY PAST GROSSMONT, 28-27, WITH FOURTH-QUARTER COMEBACK

Antelope Valley College Football rallied from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter, scoring two touchdowns in the final 11 minutes to stun Grossmont College, 28-27, Saturday afternoon. The road win gives the Marauders a 3-1 record over the Griffins in their last four matchups, dating back to the 2023 season.
After Grossmont took a 27-14 lead early in the 3rd quarter, AVC answered with a 27-yard touchdown run by Felix Diaz with 6:04 left in the period. Diaz finished with a team-high 53 rushing yards on 7 carries, averaging 7.6 yards per attempt, including the 27-yard scoring burst.
In the 4th quarter, quarterback Tyson Smith rushed for a 1-yard score with 10:31 remaining, cutting the Grossmont lead to 27-21 and helping spark the Marauders' late-game rally. Smith turned in a strong all-around performance, completing 26 of 36 passes for 261 yards and one touchdown while adding a rushing TD.
Through the air, Shawn Irwin was Smith's top target, hauling in 9 catches for 113 yards. Andrew Garner added 6 catches for 58 yards, while Diaz contributed 2 receptions for 10 yards. Nathan Valencia recorded AVC's lone receiving touchdown in the first half, catching a 2-yard TD pass from Smith.
The Marauders continued their comeback in the 4th quarter. Following Smith's rushing touchdown, Daste Lee capped a late AVC drive with a 1-yard TD run with just 2:13 remaining, putting the Marauders ahead for the first time, 28-27. AVC finished with 333 yards of total offense and converted 6-of-13 third-down opportunities.
The Marauder defense also came up with several key plays, recording 5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. Jacob Fraser led AVC with 6 total tackles and 2 sacks, while Houston Brown also registered 6 tackles. Caleb Craig added 2 tackles, a sack for a 14-yard loss, and 2 pass breakups.
Special teams also provided a steady contribution, as Lucas Bailey connected on all four of his extra-point attempts and averaged 38.2 yards on five punts, including a long of 61 yards and three punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
The 2-1 Marauders will next face Compton College on the road on Oct. 3, at 1 pm.
