Tucson, AZ — SAHUARO RALLIES PAST SABINO, MAKES IT THREE STRAIGHT IN RIVALRY Down 6–2 at halftime on Friday night, Sahuaro needed a spark. The Cougars found it in the second half, pulling away for a 22–14 win at Sabino that snapped their three-game losing streak and gave them a third consecutive victory over their eastside rivals. Senior running back Anakin Alexander put Sahuaro ahead with a 3-yard touchdown run to open the second-half scoring. Nicholas Bojorquez later turned a screen pass into a 32-yard touchdown, stretching the lead to 22–6. Sabino answered with an 86-yard touchdown reception from Ahmed, but Alexander and the Cougars’ offense ran out the clock. The win marks Sahuaro’s first three-game streak against Sabino since the Cougars won three straight from 1987 to 1991. “It feels great,” Alexander said after the game. “We executed everything that we needed to.” He credited his offensive line for handling the physical work up front and said the team needed this win to build momentum for the games ahead. Now 2–3, Sahuaro opens 4A Kino play at home Friday against No. 9 Walden Grove. Sabino, also 2–3, hosts No. 11 Pusch Ridge.
