Fort Wayne, IN — Fort Wayne, IN — The Bishop Dwenger JV made a statement on the road Tuesday night, riding a punishing ground game, an opportunistic defense and dominant line play to a 48-8 rout of Wayne. The win kept the Saints unbeaten and pushed them to 3-0 on the season. Dwenger set the tone early. In the first quarter, #91 Isaac Hilger capped the opening drive with a rushing touchdown, and #99 Miguel Escobar's extra point made it 7-0. The Saints struck again soon after, this time through the air, as #15 Blaise Garrett flipped a swing pass to #94 Dominic Wagner, who turned it into a 40-yard touchdown to stretch the lead to 14-0. Special teams joined the party in the second quarter. #40 Jacob Worman came flying off the edge to block a Wayne punt, handing the offense the ball at the 14-yard line. #42 Zack Tippmann needed just one play to cash in, bulling his way in from 14 yards out. The extra point was no good, but the Saints carried a comfortable 20-0 lead into the break. If the first half belonged to the offense and special teams, the third quarter belonged to the defense. #28 Eli Atkinson jumped a route and took it the other way, racing to the house for a pick-six that made it 27-0. Wayne finally answered with its lone score of the night — a touchdown and two-point conversion — but that was as close as the Generals would get. From there, it was all Saints and all ground game. #38 Hunter Carteaux punched in a 5-yard touchdown, then added another from three yards out to push the lead to 41-8, with Escobar's reliable leg moving him to 5-of-6 on extra points. Wagner then put the exclamation point on the night, bulldozing in from 10 yards out behind a dominant surge up front to make it 48-8 — the final. That offensive line deserves a game ball. Time and again the Saints' front blew defenders off the ball and opened up lanes for their backs, paving the way for five rushing touchdowns and a physical, balanced attack Wayne simply couldn't match. The defense was every bit its equal — swarming to the ball, forcing takeaways and keeping the Generals off the scoreboard until the outcome was long decided. It was a complete team win for a JV group that keeps finding new ways to dominate. At 3-0, the Saints turn their attention to the Carroll Chargers up next.
