Recap
Fort Wayne, IN — Fort Wayne, IN — On a night when end-zone trips were hard to come by, the Bishop Dwenger JV Saints leaned on their defense and a little late-half magic to knock off visiting Homestead 14-6. The Saints are back in the win column and rolling at 4-1 on the season.
The first half was a defensive slugfest, with both teams trading stops and neither able to crack the scoreboard. Then, in the final seconds of the second quarter, the Saints delivered the kind of play that swings a game. With just three ticks left on the clock, junior defensive back #32 Henry Reidy jumped a route, picked off a Homestead pass at his own 25 and raced 75 yards the other way for a pick-six as the halftime buzzer sounded. #99 Miguel Escobar tacked on the extra point, and Dwenger jogged to the locker room with a hard-earned 7-0 lead — and all the momentum.
The Saints kept that energy rolling in the third quarter. With just under four minutes to play in the period, quarterback #15 Blaise Garrett powered in on a QB sneak behind a strong push from his offensive line, and Escobar's second PAT stretched the lead to 14-0.
Homestead answered a few minutes later with a short touchdown run from its quarterback to climb within striking distance, but the Saints' special teams had the final say — #54 Levi Tippmann came flying in to block the extra point, preserving a 14-6 cushion.
From there, both defenses dug in once more. The teams battled back and forth throughout a scoreless fourth quarter, but Dwenger's lead never wavered, and the Saints closed it out for a 14-6 victory.
It was a complete, gritty team effort — the kind of win that shows just how much fight this group has. At 4-1, the Saints have plenty to build on as they turn their attention to Northrop, whom they'll face on the road next Monday.
