Fort Wayne, IN — The Bishop Dwenger JV football team delivered a dominant performance Monday night, using a powerful rushing attack, an opportunistic defense and strong play up front to shut out rival Bishop Luers 35-0. The Saints found the end zone five times, including a defensive touchdown, while keeping the Knights off the scoreboard for all four quarters in an impressive rivalry victory. Dwenger set the tone early. With 6:28 remaining in the first quarter, Landon Tippmann powered his way into the end zone from nine yards out, giving the Saints an early 7-0 advantage. The rushing touchdown established Dwenger’s physical ground game and put the Knights on their heels. The Saints weren’t finished. On Luers’ very next offensive possession, #26 Andrew Parent jumped a pass and took it all the way back for a pick-six, giving Dwenger its second touchdown in quick succession. The defensive score stretched the Saints’ advantage to 14-0 and capped an impressive opening quarter. After a scoreless second quarter, Dwenger came out of halftime ready to add to its advantage. With 7:47 remaining in the third quarter, Landon Tippmann broke free for a 20-yard rushing touchdown, giving him his second score of the night and extending the Saints’ lead to 21-0. The Saints continued to dominate on the ground. Just two minutes later, with 5:47 remaining in the third quarter, Zack Tippmann broke through on a fullback dive and powered his way into the end zone. The touchdown extended Dwenger’s advantage to 28-0 and continued an impressive night for the Saints’ rushing attack. Dwenger put the finishing touches on the victory in the fourth quarter. With 5:49 remaining, Michael Koors punched in a seven-yard rushing touchdown, giving the Saints their fifth score of the night and extending the lead to 35-0. From there, Dwenger’s defense finished the job, securing the shutout and a convincing victory over its longtime rival. That offensive line deserves plenty of credit. Time and again, the Saints controlled the line of scrimmage and opened running lanes for their backs. Landon Tippmann led the scoring with two rushing touchdowns, Zack Tippmann added another powerful run from the fullback position, and Koors finished off the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown. Dwenger’s ground game accounted for four of the team’s five touchdowns. The defense was every bit as impressive. The Saints kept Luers off the scoreboard for the entire night, consistently getting stops and preventing the Knights from finding any offensive rhythm. Parent’s first-quarter pick-six provided an early spark, while the entire defensive unit continued to stand strong throughout all four quarters. It was a complete team performance from a JV group that continues to show its physicality and determination. The Saints scored on offense and defense, controlled the game up front and never allowed their rival to gain momentum. With four rushing touchdowns, a defensive score and a shutout, Bishop Dwenger walked away with a dominant 35-0 victory over Bishop Luers, giving the Saints another impressive performance to build on as the season continues.
