Recap
Fort Wayne, IN — The Bishop Dwenger JV footbal team delivered another impressive performance Monday night, using an explosive rushing attack, a defensive touchdown and strong play up front to defeat Snider 31-21. The Saints found the end zone five times, built an early 18-point advantage and continued to answer when the Panthers attempted to fight back, securing a hard-fought victory.
Dwenger set the tone early. With 9:21 remaining in the first quarter, #54 Levi Tippmann powered his way into the end zone from 14 yards out, giving the Saints their first touchdown of the night. The extra point was unsuccessful, but Dwenger had quickly established a 6-0 advantage.
The Saints weren’t finished. With 3:25 remaining in the opening quarter, #36 Landon Tippmann broke free for an explosive 80-yard rushing touchdown, showing off his speed as he raced downfield and into the end zone. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful, but the big play extended Dwenger’s lead to 12-0.
The Saints’ defense joined the scoring party just over two minutes later. With 1:15 remaining in the first quarter, #26 Andrew Parent intercepted a Snider pass and returned it 60 yards for a pick-six, giving Dwenger its third touchdown of the opening quarter. The extra point was unsuccessful, but the Saints carried a commanding 18-0 advantage into the second quarter.
Snider managed to find the end zone in the second quarter, but Dwenger responded before heading into the locker room. With just 50 seconds remaining in the half, #42 Zack Tippmann powered his way across the goal line for a rushing touchdown, extending the Saints’ lead to 24-7. The two-point attempt was unsuccessful, but Dwenger had regained momentum heading into halftime.
The Panthers cut into the lead midway through the third quarter, but once again, the Saints had an answer.
With 3:10 remaining in the third, Zack Tippmann punched in his second rushing touchdown of the night, this time from five yards out. The extra point was good, extending Dwenger’s advantage to 31-14 and giving the Saints some much-needed breathing room heading into the final quarter.
Snider added another touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but Dwenger’s early offensive explosion and strong second-half response proved to be the difference. The Saints maintained their advantage and closed out the night with a 31-21 victory.
That Dwenger rushing attack deserves plenty of credit. The Saints found the end zone four times on the ground, displaying a combination of speed, power and physicality. Levi Tippmann started the scoring with a tough 14-yard run, Landon Tippmann delivered the biggest offensive play of the night with his 80-yard touchdown, and Zack Tippmann added two more rushing scores to help secure the victory.
The offensive line played a major role in Dwenger’s success. The Saints consistently created running lanes and provided opportunities for their backs to make plays. Whether it was breaking free for a long touchdown or powering through defenders near the goal line, Dwenger’s ground game continued to produce when the team needed it most.
The defense also made its presence felt throughout the night. Parent’s 60-yard interception return for a touchdown provided an early spark and helped Dwenger build its commanding first-quarter lead. The defensive score was another example of the Saints’ ability to create opportunities and turn them into points.
It was another complete team effort from a Bishop Dwenger JV squad that continues to show its toughness and determination. The Saints scored three touchdowns in the opening quarter, responded to Snider’s second-half push and delivered the plays necessary to secure another victory.
With four rushing touchdowns, a 60-yard pick-six and a strong performance on both sides of the football, Bishop Dwenger walked away with an impressive 31-21 victory over Snider.
