Fort Wayne, IN — The Bishop Dwenger freshman football team put together another dominant performance Thursday night, using explosive plays on offense and a strong defensive effort to take down Homestead 28-14 on the road. The Saints struck for three big touchdowns in the first half and never looked back, carrying a 20-0 lead into halftime before finishing off the Spartans in the second half. Dwenger set the tone early with its ability to create explosive plays. Asher Bullerman provided one of the biggest, taking a reverse 80 yards to the house for a touchdown. Bullerman found space and turned on the speed, giving the Saints an early spark and putting the Homestead defense on its heels. The Saints weren’t done. Dwenger went to the air for its next big play, connecting on a 60-yard touchdown pass to Shaw. The long score continued an impressive first half for the offense and showed the Saints could attack Homestead in multiple ways. Then came another huge play on the ground. Andres broke loose for a 60-yard touchdown run, giving Dwenger its third touchdown of the half. Behind an offense that consistently created openings and took advantage of them, the Saints carried a commanding 20-0 advantage into halftime. While the offense provided the fireworks, Dwenger’s defense did its part. The Saints pitched a first-half shutout, keeping Homestead out of the end zone and giving the offense plenty of opportunities to build the lead. The combination allowed Dwenger to control the game throughout the opening two quarters. Homestead finally broke through with a passing touchdown midway through the third quarter, but the Saints responded before the period was over. Sorsha Boacheon delivered the answer, breaking free for a 30-yard rushing touchdown late in the third quarter. Dwenger converted the two-point attempt to stretch the advantage to 28-7 heading into the fourth, quickly shutting down any momentum Homestead had started to build. The Spartans added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Dwenger never allowed the game to get away from its control. The Saints closed out the night with a 28-14 victory and another impressive all-around performance. That Dwenger offense deserves plenty of credit. The Saints produced touchdowns of 80, 60, 60 and 30 yards, displaying speed and explosiveness throughout the night. Bullerman made the reverse count, Shaw delivered through the passing game, Andres broke free on the ground and Boacheon put the finishing touches on the scoring in the third quarter. The defense was just as important. Dwenger held Homestead scoreless throughout the entire first half and allowed only two touchdowns on the night. With the offense producing big plays and the defense consistently getting stops, the Saints controlled the game from beginning to end. It was another complete performance from the Bishop Dwenger freshmen. The Saints established themselves early, built a 20-point halftime advantage and answered when Homestead attempted to fight back in the second half. Dwenger walked away from Homestead with a convincing 28-14 road victory.
