Recap
Fort Wayne, IN — Fort Wayne, IN — In a game that turned into a track meet, the Bishop Dwenger freshmen simply had too many big-play weapons. Behind a huge night from quarterback #15 Landin Haynes and a pair of explosive scores from #23 Carter Lyons, the Saints traded haymakers with Wayne before pulling away for a 45-26 win to stay unbeaten at 3-0.
The Saints struck first, finding the end zone and adding the extra point for an early 7-0 lead after one quarter. Wayne answered in the second on a passing touchdown, but a failed two-point try kept Dwenger in front, 7-6 — and that's when Haynes and the offense took over.
First, Haynes uncorked a deep ball to Lyons for a 53-yard touchdown, and a successful two-point conversion pushed the lead to 15-6. Then, with 1:11 left in the half, he went right back to the well — this time hitting #24 Asher Bullerman in stride for a 73-yard scoring strike. #13 Sorcha Boacheon tacked on the extra point, and the Saints carried a 22-6 cushion into the break.
The third quarter turned into a shootout. Wayne trimmed the deficit to 22-12, but any momentum was short-lived — just 17 seconds later, Lyons fielded the ensuing kickoff and raced 80 yards to the house, and another two-point conversion made it 30-12. Wayne kept swinging and pulled back within 30-18, but Haynes capped the Saints' response with a 1-yard touchdown plunge and Boacheon's PAT to make it 37-18 heading to the fourth.
Any hope of a Wayne comeback ended early in the final period. #18 Beau Chaney jumped a route and took it 25 yards the other way for a pick-six, and a two-point conversion blew the game open at 45-18. Wayne added a touchdown in the closing seconds to set the 45-26 final, but the outcome was long since decided.
It was a statement performance for a Saints offense that can score from anywhere. Haynes accounted for three touchdowns — two through the air and one on the ground — while Lyons reached the end zone twice, once as a receiver and once on special teams. Add in Bullerman's long touchdown catch and Chaney's pick-six, and the Class of 2030 showed off the kind of explosiveness that's tough to keep up with.
At 3-0, the young Saints keep rolling, and the big plays keep coming. The BD faithful have plenty of reasons to stay excited about this group.
