Fort Wayne, IN — Fort Wayne, IN — The Bishop Dwenger JV Saints ran into a talented Carroll squad Monday night, and while the Chargers came away with a 28-6 win on their home field, the young Saints showed plenty of fight in a game that offered real building blocks heading into the heart of the season. Dwenger sits at a strong 3-1. Carroll got on the board first with a first-quarter touchdown and carried a 14-0 lead into halftime. The Chargers, one of the area's better JV programs, added a pair of scores in the third quarter to build their advantage. Through it all, the Saints kept swinging. The offense moved the ball between the 20s, but weren't able to find the endzone consistently to keep pace with the Chargers. The Saints' persistence paid off in the fourth quarter, when #42 Zack Tippmann capped a drive with a 4-yard touchdown run to put BD on the board. The extra point was no good, but the score was a fitting reward for an offense that never stopped competing. The Dwenger defense battled from the first snap to the last. Anchored by #43 Owen Bailey, #54 Levi Tippmann, #40 Jacob Worman and #32 Henry Reidy, the Saints flew around the field and made Carroll earn everything it got. That effort and toughness is a foundation this team can carry forward. There's a lot to like about where this group is headed. At 3-1 with plenty of season left, the Saints will look to get back in the win column when they host Homestead on Sept. 21.
