Whittier, CA — Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, Pioneer Titans Varsity still held off Bassett for a 6-4 victory on Saturday. Bassett tallied four runs in the failed comeback. David Garcia and Jared Covarrubias all picked up RBIs in the rally. Bassett scored three runs in the fifth inning, but Pioneer Titans Varsity still managed to pull out the victory. Bassett scored its runs on a double by Covarrubias. Pioneer got things started in the first inning. Isaiah Montalvo was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. Javier Macias earned the win for Pioneer Titans Varsity. He surrendered one run on five hits over four innings, striking out one and walking one. Mikey Amigon threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Amigon recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for the Titans. Carlos Toribio took the loss for Bassett. He surrendered four runs on zero hits over two-thirds of an inning. Matt Zepeda went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Pioneers offense. Pioneer was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Izeah Baqueiro had the most chances in the field with ten.
