Whittier, CA — Pioneer Titans Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 12-3 loss to Oxford Academy on Friday. Oxford Academy scored on a double by Steven Hogencamp in the first inning and a single by Omar Vega Gutierrez in the second inning. The Pioneer Titans struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Oxford Academy, giving up 12 runs. In the bottom of the first inning, Pioneer tied things up at one. They scored one run when Xavier Cervantes singled. After Oxford Academy scored one run in the top of the seventh, the Titans answered with one of their own. Oxford Academy scored when Luke Hogencamp doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Pioneer then answered when Isaiah Montalvo singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Oxford Academy pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second Vega Gutierrez singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Oxford Academy scored seven runs in the third inning. Oxford Academy's big inning was driven by an error on a ball put in play by Vega Gutierrez and Hogencamp, a single by Anthony Salazar, by Matt Young, and a double by William Santos. Hogencamp earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for Oxford Academy. He went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out seven. Javier Macias took the loss for Pioneer. He lasted four innings, allowing five hits and ten runs while striking out two and walking one. PiHi totaled seven hits in the game. Druw Galindo and Nathan Ruano all managed multiple hits for the Titans. Ruano and Galindo each collected two hits to lead the offense. Hogencamp led Oxford Academy with two hits in five at bats.
