Lakewood, CA — Pioneer Titans Varsity defeated Artesia 14-2 on Thursday thanks in part to Justin Botello, who drove in five runners. Botello drove in runs on a double in the third, a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and a single in the fifth. Pioneer Titans Varsity got on the board in the second inning. Druw Galindo singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Pioneer put up four runs in the seventh inning. Pioneer Titans Varsity batters contributing to the big inning included Nathan Ruano, Xavier Cervantes, and Javier Macias, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Mikey Amigon was the winning pitcher for Pioneer. He surrendered one run on four hits over five and a third innings, striking out eight and walking one. Isaiah Montalvo and Cervantes entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Montalvo recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Pioneer. Pioneer Titans Varsity tallied 11 hits on the day. Macias, Galindo, Botello, and Amigon all managed multiple hits for the Titans. Macias went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the offense.
