La Palma, CA — Kennedy High School took on Crean Lutheran in a league make-up game Friday, defeating the Saints 5-0 for their fifth win in a row. In what has become a familiar pattern, Kennedy exhibited a strong offense while their pitchers shut down the opposition completely. The Irish were held hitless until the fourth inning when they exploded for all 5 of their runs. Albert Munoz led off with a double to the wall in left center. Johnny Soto followed with a single and Wyatt Johnson drove home the first run with another single. That set the stage for Sebastian McSherry who has been swinging a hot bat of late. McSherry launched a towering drive to left that cleared the fence for his first homerun of the year and chased home Soto and Johnson. It was the fifth hit in his last seven official plate appearances for the slugging catcher. The Irish were not done yet. Jason May kept the inning going by reaching on an error and Robert Zeoli continued his own hot hitting with a single, the first of what would be two hits on the day for the big designated hitter. Jaelyn Edds worked the count full before drawing a walk that loaded the bases. Chase Leonard then lined an RBI single to right, driving in the final Irish run. There was no shortage of hitting stars in the game. Besides those already mentioned, Munoz added yet another double to deep left-center in the sixth, and Johnson continued drive the ball with a second single in the fifth. In the latest display of pitching excellence, Johnson shut Crean out for six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. Joshua Sanabria came in to close out the game by retiring the only three batters that he faced, striking out Brett Aguirre to end the game. The win improves Kennedy’s record to 13-5 overall and 3-1 in League play. Tomorrow, Kennedy will open play in the Santa Ana Elks Tournament, facing Estancia at the Kennedy field.
