Rancho Santa Margarita, CA — "It's why they play the game!" Due to scheduling snafu, we ended up playing SM [and Bosco] earlier than expected. [Trinity League scheduled league matches during spring break]. We are still in preseason mode, usually having about 8 non league matches under our belts at this time. So, totally green-behind-the-ears boys, David, if you will, traveled to SM to face the proverbial Goliath. Short version, Battling under the lights, tied 8 sets apiece, Lions doubles teams #3 and #1 were attempting to pull off the amazing upset. #3 doubles lost 2-6 leaving Brock Bowman and Sean Delany to the task. They prevailed 6-4 in a hard-fought battle! The total game count went to the Eagles 80 to 74, but, Coach O takes it as a win, on many levels. Danny Day was amazing, sweeping all three of his sets, remaining undefeated for 2 years at the SM tennis facility. Brett Batey played amazing sweeping two sets before losing to a tough Eagles #1 singles. Andrew Antonius with Nick Graham took two sets, including a huge win over the Eagles #1 team!. Brock and Sean added two as well. "Our team's success for the next two years, pivoted on this match today and I will always point back to it as the turning point," says Orahood. "Can't wait for the rematch!" "A Lot of boys grew up today."
