Whittier, CA — Pioneer Titans Varsity's effort to come back from down four runs in the fifth inning came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to Bassett on Saturday. The Titans scored three runs in the failed comeback on a single by Druw Galindo and a single by Xavier Cervantes. Pioneer was right in it until Bassett in the fifth inning. PiHi got things started in the first inning when Galindo's sac fly scored one run for the Titans. Bassett knotted the game up at two in the top of the fourth inning, when Raul Luna's sac fly scored one run for Bassett. David Garcia got the win for Bassett. He surrendered five runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out three. Matt Zepeda took the loss for Pioneer. He surrendered six runs on three hits over five innings, striking out five. Pioneer smacked one home run on the day. Isaiah Montalvo went for the long ball in the third inning. Zepeda led the offense for Black and Green with two hits in four at bats. Daniel Torrero went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Bassett in hits.
