La Mirada, CA — In a battle between two of the best pitchers in the United States, Brennan Malone threw a complete game three-hitter to lead IMG Academy to a 1-0 win over La Mirada in the opening round of USA Baseball’s National High School Invitational Tournament in Cary, North Carolina. Malone, who many scouts consider a top-10 pick for the 2019 MLB Draft, quieted the Matadors hitters by striking out eight while yielding three walks. He has signed with University of North Carolina. La Mirada’s Jared Jones, who has been tabbed as top prospect in the state, for the Class of 2020, also turned in an excellent performance, surrendering one run on two hits and struck out six. IMG scored the only run of the game in the second inning when Tucker Mitchell doubled to left that scored Billy Underwood. La Mirada will take on Corona del sol from Arizona, in a game that will start at 7:00 in the morning Pacific time.
