Wildomar, CA — The Freshman Elsinore Tigers lost their first game of the season against Rancho Buena Vista by a score of 10-6. In an old school, low scoring battle, the Longhorns got an early lead and were able to hold on in a scoreless second half. In spite of an excited and outstanding home crowd (big thanks to family and friends...you were definitely noticed) , the Tiger offense stalled in the “red zone” multiple times and just couldn’t seem to break through with a timely big scoring play. The offense was limited in points but not in offensive production. The right side of the line turned in strong performances led by Nikolas Morones(who also made several plays on defense), Jeffrey Wigand, and tight end Chris Olson, who also had his first catch of the season and handled the kicking duties. Wing backs Jamari Jones and Makiyum Smith contributed explosive plays for big yardage. The defense started slow but was able to bounce back with a second half shutout. Andrew Montez made two drive stopping defensive plays by breaking up passes from his cornerback position. Solomon Smith and Kenneth Gilmore provided energy and play making ability up front. Gavin Smith, Zavier Swoffer, Jones and Morones all played strong “iron man” football on both sides of the ball on a hot Thursday afternoon. The Tigers go into their “bye week” with a record of 2-1-1. They will look to rest and recover to make the final sprint to the finish line of the season. Although the season moves quickly and game results aren’t always what we work for, our pursuit of Excellence and Integrity is endless. Elsinore will look to maintain a good attitude in preparation for our home game against Riverside Poly in two weeks. http://www.hudl.com/game/elsinore-high-school-vs-rancho-buena-vista/freshman-football/131266-11578202/box-score
