Fullerton, CA — The Royals faced GSAC opponent #6 Wesmont and upset the Warriors 96-87 rounding out their play of the regular GSAC season. The Royals will head to the GSAC tournament and claim the #6 seed. The Royals came out of the gates firing as they went on an 11-4 scoring run to begin the game. The Warriors continued to make a run to stay close behind the Royals, but could not overpower the Royals offense. Kane Daniels (SR/Blythe, CA) made back-to-back three-pointers to give the Royals a seven-point lead with just over six minutes left in the first half. Lloyd Wright (SR/Melbourne, Australia) was a huge impact player in the first half as he scored 12 points for the Royals. The Royals led 45-33 at halftime. At the beginning of the second half, the Royals and Warriors exchanged bucket for bucket until the Royals went on an 8-0 run to give them a 21 point lead 5 minutes into the second half. The Warriors were hot from the three-point range and made three in a row to bring it back to a nine-point game. The Royals continued to push on offense to solidify their lead. The Royals would end up taking the game 96-87 to upset the Warriors. The Royals shot 59 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range throughout the game. The Royals were also able to score 12 points after forcing 13 turnovers from Westmont. Lloyd Wright led the offense with 23 points, shooting 6-9 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line sinking eight. Michael Fry contributed 17 points and 6 rebounds.
