San Juan Capistrano, CA — Wow! Coach Kirk circles one date on his calendar every year, the 1st girls match vs Santa Margarita. This years circle was a little early in the season, which was bothersome, but that can work both ways. Captain, Alexa Taba vetoed the "No school, no practice" calling for a captain's practice Monday [school day off]. It paid off as the doubles fixed some big gaps in their games. Taylor, coming back from 1-4 in first set was a big deal, for the team and for her personally. Jenna Lee, a SM transfer, dealt a big can of whoop revenge on her old teammates, dropping only 2 games in 3 sets. Kaley Houshmand pick up the 7th singles set at the #3 spot, also, first round. SM stacked their doubles, but, KAty Golbranson with Claire DeLaney took 2 sets while Lily and Alexa won the last match of the day in front of everyone..AFTER BEING DOWN 1-4 ! If they lose, we lose 9-9 on game count...Only way to win it was outright! Talk about pressure... Coach Orahood says, "We practice this EXACT scenario all the time; we're up 9-8 vs SM, last match of the day, if we win , 10-8 good deal. Drop the last game, we lose on game count..." Role play is the real deal. We would like to win league outright, so, we have some more work to do, before the rematch, namely OLu and Mater Dei! Go Lions! Great day to be a Lion!!!
