San Juan Capistrano, CA — Our B & C squads got a couple of more set victories today vs Newport Harbor than A & C a couple of weeks ago. Shows us that everybody is improving. It was our first Saturday home match of the year and we had great parent (and grandparent) turnout from both schools - thank you! Dissimilar from our earlier match, in which 3 of our 4 set victories came from the “top half” of the draw - 5 of our 6 wins today came from lines 4, 5 & 6. This speaks to our depth and again continued improvement. Top MVP honors go to the players who won 2 sets today, which nobody did in our first match: Annie Sherwood who won sets with each of Aubrey Gibson and Katie Demirbey; and Nicole Griffith who won sets with Kayla Bright and Mia Contreras. Natalie Walters and Briana Piermarini picked up our only win on the upper 3 courts with an easy 6-1 win in the 2nd round. Honorable mention “shout out” 😮to Alyssa Allado and Sofia Recupero who came close to beating Newport’s #1 team by combining “2 back on first serve” and playing a bit of “Australian” style doubles. They fought back from 1-4 to force a tie-breaker before bowing out 6-8. Very good effort everybody...this is the best score we’ve ever posted vs the Sailors. Next up: double header this Monday: DH-1 at hone vs Santa Margarita and DH-2 at Bolsa Grande.
