San Juan Capistrano, CA — After posting a 1-17 loss at Portola earlier this season, our A & B squads picked up 5 set wins in this all doubles format. Again, we arranged this match last spring, designed to play either a Frosh Soph match or the lower half of a large JV team. Well, their JV team only has 14 players, so we pretty much played a full JV team this afternoon and represented our school well. Great job ladies. Top MVP honors today go to Hayden Gibson who was the only Lion to win 100% of her sets and the only one to win 2 sets today. Hayden played on the top 3 courts, once each with Anna Solovjev and Samantha Weinberg. These girls played some great tennis against very good opponents. Well done! Also winning a set in the top half of the draw, kudos to Briana Piermarini and Natalie Walters who defeated Portola’s #2 team in the opening round: 6-4. Critical to theirttv win was some good net play and ability to return some very fast serves. Additional shout outs to Madi Crawford who teamed with Kayla Bright at line #5 for a 3rd round 6-0 default victory; apparently they scared the other team so bad, they were afraid to play them. Yay!!😀 🎾 Also winning in the 3rd round, congrats to Lily Redden and Nicole Griffith who posted a 6-3 win against their #5 team. Next up: should be a home CIF playoff match for varsity, TBD.
