Huntington Beach, CA — The rematch vs Edison… The game strategy going in was to make Edison earn everything. We were going to compress the field and frustrate them so we can explode past them on the 50/50 balls as they tired. The first have went by the designed plan flawlessly. The Golden Bear Team Defense withstood all Edison could give. The first half saw Edison get 11 Short Corners and walk away with zero goals. This is not counting the numerous other saves from our Goal Keeper throughout the period. We went in the half in real good shape. Some of our players didn’t understand the magnitude of the moment. Even though the score was all knotted at zero, that in itself was a victory. The first game was so lopsided, that what we accomplished through the half was hard to resonate. Edison coach unlike our first meeting couldn’t work on her tan on the sidelines. She actually had to get up and coach, fire up her troops. We broke from half I believe confident. The girls wanted to dish out a little retribution so we went on the attack the second half. Abandoning the bend but don’t break game plan employed in the first half. What eventually happened in the second half was as we attacked we left wholes in our defense as we pushed forward too quick with our athleticism and pure speed. Edison is a mature, skilled and crafty team. They exploited the Gaps and registered their first goal 3 minutes into the next period. That initial goal changed the game plan for the day. We now had to attempt to return the favor. We could no longer go back to bend don’t break. The game slipped away from us unfortunately. I hope to see them again one more time this season, Playoffs! We will reload and be back stronger and more confident!
