Wildomar, CA — The Freshman Elsinore Tiger Football Team earned a 22-8 home victory against the Poly High School Bears. Although they lost 4 fumbles in the game, the Tigers rallied together to make a huge goal line stand that turned the game around. The entire defense worked together to “hold the rope” and stop Poly’s 250 lb. fullback at the 1 yard line. In the process, Solomon Smith stripped the ball from him, rumbling 98 yards to set up a short td run. It was an outstanding team effort and was hopefully a season defining moment for these young tigers. Jacob Melendez had a standout game on both the offensive and defensive lines. Zavier Swoffer provided big blocks offense while recording 3 QB sacks on defense. Andrew Stankevich and Semaj Moore combined for a critical 61 yard TD pass as well as a 2 point conversion. Makiyum Smith returned to action and contributed several big plays including a TD run after having a strong week of practice. Kenny Gilmore led a strong run defense that held Poly to negative yards rushing in the game. Cayden Cornelius had a big game on defense and special teams with a big interception and kick return. Capping off the highlights was safety Justin McCarter, who snatched his first career interception to seal the victory for Elsinore. The Tigers will look to continue developing courage both on and off the field as they prepare to travel to Heritage High School(Romoland, CA) to take on the Patriots next Thursday. http://www.hudl.com/game/elsinore-high-school-vs-poly-high-school/freshman-football/131266-11981937/box-score
