San Juan Capistrano, CA — We played an all doubles format today in a very fun, competitive atmosphere. After a poor (1-5 loss) showing in the first round, in which Brian Chi and Peter Zhang were the only set winners, we fought back evenly splitting 3-3 in rounds 2 & 3, resulting in a 7-11 deficit. All the boys fought back as we tried to climb out of the early hole. At the other coach’s request, we used a few JV players to accommodate the all doubles format and to even things up a bit. 3 of the 4 MVP players today are from the JV squad, so I’ll recognize them here, Peter Zhang with Brian Chi and the team of Noah Nguyen and Daniel Pasha. These guys all won 2 of 3 sets played. Picking up 1 set victories today, kudos to the teams of Max Chiotis with Brendan Hughes who competed in the tuff “top half” of the draw; Ronan McKeagney with Tofer Jaworski (their other 2 set losses were very close at 4-6); Alex Davidson helping partner Minha Kim get his first set victory of the young season. Honorable mention to Kai Woessner and Johnny Cameron who forced a tie-breaker and were “oh so close” to winning their first set of the season. Great efforts today guys, thanks for not giving up. Next up: all doubles format (4 courts) at Portola, Wed. March 4th, along w our JV team which is playing the same format on the other 8 courts.
