San Juan Capistrano, CA — Lions win rematch with visiting Bolsa Grande for 2nd win of the year. Kudos to a few 7th period PE JV players who filled in for missing players this afternoon; the Matadors had a few new faces on their side as well, which made for a very close match. Kudos to Peter Zhang, Daniel Pasha, and Noah Nguyen who dominated singles, winning all of the sets in which they played. We only won 3 of 9 doubles sets. However, in the 3rd round, Max Chiotis and Tofer Jaworski upset a very strong #2 team in a come-from-behind victory giving us the crucial 10th (and final) set win of the afternoon, giving us the match win; and giving them MVP honors for the day. Tofer actually won both of his matches today, the other one with Brendan Hughes. Honorable mention to Alex Davidson who fought back from a deficit to force a tie-breaker, as did Ronan McKeagney and Minha Kim in the final set of the afternoon. Minha and Hunter Peasley fought back vs their #1 team, before bowing out 4-6, great effort up on court #6. Congratulations to Kainoa Woessner who teamed with Johnny Cameron and thrashed their #3 team 6-1 in the opening round of play. This was Kai’s first set win, well done! Next up: Friday, March 13th - at Laguna Beach, 2:30pm.
