San Juan Capistrano, CA — You are not going to win the close matches, especially play-offs and Trinity League championships, if your #3’s can’t beat their #3’s in the opening round of play. Mike Petilli battled for over an hour to defeat their #3 player in the 1st round today, which proved to be the margin of victory. Michael will be sharing MVP honors today with two of our doubles teams, each of whom swept all 3 matches. Well deserved Michael. Michael Woodward and Nicholas Keenan also defeated their #3 player for an additional 2 sets. Noah Nguyen with Daniel Pasha and Peter Zhang with Aiden German swept all 3 sets played, giving us 6 sets. Kudos to Aiden who just got a thumb cast removed from his dominant hand, playing through pain and getting the job done. Andrew McIntosh and Rodney Culwell picked up the 7th set win in doubles. Great team effort today. Had we tied, we would have won on game count due to domination in doubles. However, kudos to our singles players who got 3-4 games off their #1 and #2 players: Michael Woodward, Nicholas Keenan and Jack Thompson. These types of efforts win matches. Great TEAM victory this afternoon.
