Santa Barbara, CA — The #6 seed Royals faced off against #3 seed The Master's in the Quarterfinal game of the GSAC Tournament. The Royals upset #20 TMU 86-74 to advance to the Semi-Final GSAC Tournament Game tomorrow night. This is the Royals sixth straight win and third win against a top 25 team during their win streak. At the beginning of the first half, the Royals and Mustangs exchanged buckets to keep the game within one possession. Anthony Garcia (JR/Fontana, CA) hit a three-pointer to put the Royals up 15-11 and give HIU the momentum they needed. After a couple of possessions, the Royals would take a 22-16 lead when Kane Daniels (SR/Blythe, CA) sunk a shot from behind the arc halfway through the first. HIU continued to stay hot on offense and went on an 8-2 to regain a six-point lead after the Mustangs made a small run. The first half was a whole team effort as seven Royals scored and the Royals led 40-30 at halftime. The Royals continued to pour on the points in the second half. The Royals had as much as an 18 point lead with ten minutes left to spare. Both teams shot 51 percent from the field, but the difference was the Royals shot 50 percent from behind the arc and 82 percent from the line, while the Mustangs shot 37 percent from distance and 55 percent from the line. The Royals also forced 16 Mustang turnovers throughout the game to take the game 86-74 Michael Fry (SR/Inglewood, CA) recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Josh Powell Davis had 15 points with 8 rebounds. The Royals advance to the Semi-Final game against #2 seed Menlo at 5:30 PM tomorrow.
