Whittier, CA — It was a tough day on Tuesday for Pioneer Titans Varsity Baseball Team, who lost 17-5 to Oxford Academy. Pioneer took and early lead in the first inning when Lucas Cardenas grounded into a fielders choice, scoring one run. Oxford Academy knotted the game up at one in the top of the second inning, when Nick Garcia induced Hurtado to hit into a yet another fielder's choice. Oxford Academy pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. Albayati did his part, singling in two runs on a 1-2 count. Oxford Academy scored five runs in the fifth inning. Oxford Academy big bats were led by Gonzalez, Hogencamp, Perez, and Albayati, all knocking in runs in the inning. Gonzalez led things off on the mound for Oxford Academy. Gonzalez lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out two. Garcia led things off on the pitcher's mound for Pioneer. Garcia went three innings, allowing seven runs on three hits and striking out one. Sean Zepeda-Herrera and Adrian Hernandez entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and one inning respectively. The Titans saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Nathan Price, Garcia, and Gabriel Stevens all managed multiple hits for Pioneer. Price went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Titans in hits. Oxford Academy collected 12 hits on the day.
