Fairfield, CA — Vanden Vikings JV took the lead late in the game in a 6-4 victory over Davis on Friday. The game was tied at two with the Vikes batting in the bottom of the sixth when Aiden Nolan singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Vanden got things started in the first inning when Dalen Shipp hit a single that skipped under the right-fielders glove allowing Jovan Ochoa to score all the way from first base. Shipp was also allowed to score on the play when Davis wildly threw the ball past the catcher. In the top of the third inning, Davis tied things up at two when two errors by Vanden shortstop Aidan Robles led to one run for Davis. Josiah Miguel toed the rubber for Vanden as the starter. The sophomore allowed three hits and two runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking four batters. He was relieved by Ochoa who came into a bases loaded jam with 2 outs and got out of it. He was able to put up three consecutive zeroes in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Ackerman started the game for Davis. The hurler allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Fong threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. The Vikings collected seven hits as a team on the day. Dalen Shipp and Aidan Robles each collected 2 hits apiece. The “Players of the Game” for Vanden were Aiden Nolan who got the big hit in the sixth inning giving the Vikings a two run lead and Jovan Ochoa who kept the Davis offense quiet for three and one third innings and was the winning pitcher.
