Benicia, CA — Vanden Vikings JV won Friday’s game versus Benicia in dramatic walk-off fashion. The game was tied at five with Vanden batting in the bottom of the eighth when an error allowed the winning run to cross the plate. The non-league win improved the Vikings record to 8-2 overall. The Vikes earned the victory despite allowing Benicia to score four runs in the second inning. Benicia tallied the four runs with one hit, three walks, a hit batter, and a couple misplayed balls by the defense. The four run inning gave Benicia a 5-2 lead after two innings. The Vikings scored their first two runs on a 2-out 2RBI single by Jimmy Brousseau in the first inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Vanden tied things up at five when Aidan Nolan had an RBI single and Gabe Ponce forced a run in by drawing a bases loaded walk. Angel Cueva was the starting pitcher for Vanden. He surrendered five runs while allowing only one hit over two innings. Benicia was able to take advantage of five walks and some defensive struggles to get the early lead. Joseph Torres and Josh Sanchez each through 3 innings of scoreless baseball to give the Vikes the chance to pull off the comeback victory. Torres allowed zero runs and zero hits, while striking out two. Sanchez, the winning pitcher, also allowed zero runs while allowing only one hit. Aidan Robles led the Vanden Vikings JV offense by going 4 for 5, with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 3 stolen bases. The “Players of the Game” were Joseph Torres and Josh Sanchez.
