San Juan Capistrano, CA — Despite the lopsided score, there was some very good tennis going on today. More lopsided than the score, however (and unacceptable!) was the number of MD parents vs JSerra. Where were you all? You’re are missing some great tennis and our girls deserve your support for all the hard work they have been putting in. Everybody got to play three full sets today! Our beginner/novice players continue to improve: Lucy Meyer, Chelsea Hernandez, Jacqueline Poli, Heidi Mittwer - thank you for your participation and effort today. You will notice two “new faces” in the MVP section for today! Mia Contreras and Sophia Coffin won 2 of 3 sets played, scoring half of our 4 wins! After a tough first round match at #4, they rotated down and defeated the Monarch’s #6 and #5 teams 6-3, 6-3. Well done! Fionnuala McClain and Erica Gonzalez defeated Mater Dei’s # 1 team in round three: 6-3! This was a no nonsense win against a very strong doubles team. Our last set victory was a very close tie-breaker 7-6 (7-5) in the last set of the morning with everybody watching. Great experience and good example for the younger players. Sophia Gonzalez and Sofia Recupero defeated two fast MD servers, coming back from 3-5 in the set to win 4 of the last 5 games. So(f)phia’s2 survived a couple of match points and will get MVP mention for their come back efforts. Special shout out to the doubles team of Nicole Griffith and Kaitlyn Donner, who were playing well together until a bee got mad at Nicole and stung her finger!😡🚫🐝 Kaitlyn then stepped up and played 2 sets of singles, with a strong showing: lefty vs lefty at #3. Good hustle today. Next up: Friday, March 12th at Corona Del Mar, 2pm.
