San Juan Capistrano, CA — Our Frosh Soph girls faced a legit JV team today from the visiting Capistrano Valley Cougars, losing 7 -11. Winning the only doubles set of the afternoon, and MVP honors, congrats to the team of Erica Gonzalez and Fionnuala McClain, defeating their #3 doubles team 6-1. Sophia Gonzalez, who has been putting in double time on both JV and Frosh Soph, won all 3 singles matches today. Great job MVP! Sofia Recupero fought back after tough rounds 1&2, to defeat their #3 player 6-3 in round 3 for additional MVP honors. Last, but certainly not least, a great MVP effort today by Nicole Griffith. After playing soccer in the morning, Nicole stepped up and won her first round match; and then, in the 3rd round defeated Capo’s #1 player 6-4, breaking her serve after being down 15-40...with all team members from both schools watching this exciting match. Great defense and perfectly timed lobs won this set for her. Well played! Honorable mention to huge improvements today by one of our newer players, Jacqueline Poli, who played the backhand side and was hitting great service returns vs their captain who had an awesome serve. I don’t believe Jacqueline has missed any practice sessions, and her efforts are being rewarded by constant improvement. Next up: Mater Dei, Friday March 19th at Los Caballeros Sports Club in Fountain Valley.
