Irvine, CA — Nice venue, nice afternoon - not so nice final score. The 5-13 score was more lopsided than the actual match - there was some very good tennis played this afternoon. We lost 2 tie-breakers, along with a 4-6 set. However we had great parent turnout today....JSerra parents Rock! Everybody got to play at least 2 full sets of tennis; a handful got 3 full sets in. Crean Lutheran Saints showed pretty good team depth overall, not allowing any one JSerra player to win more than one set. 3 of our 5 wins came in the 3rd and final round. Set of the day with MVP honors going to Kenneth Perez and Logan Lebsack, who fought back from a 0-3 deficit to post a huge come from behind victory: 6-4! One game at a time and a “2 back” strategy on service returns were keys in this victory. Our other doubles win, also in the 3rd round - hats off to MVP’rs Max Chiotis and Parker Gibson. This back and forth set had everything: fast serves, a few faster returns, good net play, long points, and a handful of foot faults!! (Good call Parker🤪) Noah Nguyen switched out of doubles with Kenny to play a final set of singles, which he easily won 6-3. MVP. Both Marco Belciano and Luke Krolikowski had very long first round losses, followed by strong wins in the second round of singles, winning MVP honors with 6-2 set victories. Well done guys. Next up: rematch with Crean Lutheran, Wednesday, March 24th.
