Goddard, KS — Goddard Lions JV snagged a late lead and defeated Valley Center 9-7 on Wednesday. The game was tied at seven with Goddard Lions JV batting in the bottom of the fourth when Carter Clyne singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Goddard Lions JV earned the victory despite allowing Valley Center to score four runs in the third inning. Emig, Huffman, and Loberman all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Valley Center got things started in the first inning when Mirihan singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Goddard Lions JV evened things up at seven in the bottom of the third inning when Nick Rogers drew a walk, scoring one run. Goddard Lions JV notched three runs in the second inning. Austin Rudkin and Isaac Tatro each had RBIs in the frame. Brett McGee led the Goddard Lions JV to victory on the mound. The righty lasted two innings, allowing three hits and five runs while striking out two. Carter Goodwin and Rudkin entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Goodwin recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Goddard Lions JV. Welo took the loss for Valley Center. The hurler surrendered nine runs on six hits over four innings, striking out seven. Rudkin led Goddard Lions JV with two hits in three at bats.
