San Juan Capistrano, CA — JSerra JV girls move into tie for 1st place in Trinity League with huge upset win over visiting Mater Dei this afternoon, avenging an earlier loss by the same score: 11 - 7. Both Mater Dei and JSerra defeated SMCHS in the first round, so are now tied for 1st place with matching league records of 5 wins, 1 loss. We shocked and awed the Monarchs in the opening round, winning 5 of the initial 6 sets. They never recovered.....JSerra doubles teams came within a tie-breaker of sweeping all 9 sets of doubles played. Singles picked up the additional 3 sets for the 11 wins. MVP honors to those who won 100% of sets played today: 2 doubles teams. Lauren Smith with Hayden Gibson and Anna Solovjev with Natalie Walters. Both teams won 3 straight sets, accounting for 6 set wins. Honorable mention to those who won 2 of 3 sets played: Julia Harkins with Sophia Gonzalez in doubles; Rosalia Ripullo 2 of 3 sets won in singles - including a come from behind tie-breaker set against their #1 player - Sadie. Ava Serentelos, starting at the 3rd singles spot, easily won her first round set; then in the final set of the day, fought back from 0-4 against their top player before bowing out 4-6.
