Wildomar, CA — Click here to watch game highlights http://www.hudl.com/v/2FKCVe The visiting Palm Desert Aztecs defeated the Elsinore Tigers in a Frosh football game on Wednesday, 3/31/21 by a score of 28-8. The Aztecs were late to arrive, causing a 45 minute delay to kickoff, but quick to capitalize on Tiger mistakes early in the game, jumping out to a 22-0 lead in the first half. However, the Tigers would show some tenacity, winning the second half 8-6 behind a solid defensive effort and some big plays in the passing game on offense. The Tigers were led on offense by quarterbacks Giaan Arteaga and Michael Celaya along with the strong blocking up front from Jacob Ramirez and Jackson Ferguson. Andrew Irvin provided a huge spark in the passing game on numerous 3rd and long situations, hauling in 3 catches for 63 yards, including an acrobatic back shoulder grab in the 3rd quarter. Ryu-Ken Robinson earned a 1 yard touchdown run the hard way and Celaya ran in the ensuing 2 point conversion. The Tigers nearly doubled the number of offensive plays and yards that Palm Desert produced. However, penalties, turnovers, and missed blocking assignments kept the Tigers from keeping the game close. Don’t be fooled by the score. Elsinore turned in a strong defensive performance, holding the Aztecs to 86 total yards. Joey Garcia led the charge up front from his defensive end position (replacing the injured Evan Tindell) recording 5 tackles and a forced fumble. Jordan Boyd, Jacob Ramirez, Justin White-McCarter, and Felix Chang also turned in strong performances for a Tiger defense that produced 2 turnovers, a 4th down stop and 2 punts. The Tigers will look to build on the momentum from the second half of this game and take it with them to Menifee, CA next Wednesday to take on the Heritage High School Patriots in their only away game of the season.
