Prior Lake, MN — They say pitching, defense, and timely hitting is a formula to winning games. The Blaze excelled at two out of three of these tonight, as a strong defense backed up some great pitching, especially by senior co-captain Ethan Voss, but the big hit never came. Prior Lake ended up winning the game 1-0 on a walk-off wild pitch by senior reliever Owen Geegan in the bottom of the 7th, finally breaking the scoreless tie and ending a well played baseball game at Memorial Park in Prior Lake. Ethan Voss started and went 5 scoreless innings, giving up only 2 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 5. Geegan went the final inning plus, giving up 3 hits and a walk. Unfortunately, Connor Wietgrefe, a senior lefty for Prior Lake, hung 7 zeros on the board for the home team. He held the Blaze to 3 hits, 1 walk and 1 hit batsman striking out 5. The Blaze did threaten in the 2nd inning, as junior Connor Quimby laced a double to left field, and advanced to third on an error, but was stranded there to end the inning. The Blaze threatened again in the 4th on a walk by Kade Bowar, who advanced to third on a hit and run ground ball by Asher Giese that rolled under the glove of the charging shortstop. But again, those runners were stranded. In the 6th, senior Ben Meuser laced a 1-out double down the left field line, but was again stranded in scoring position. The Blaze did a good job of putting the ball in play, but the big hit never came. Quimby and Meuser were both 1 for 3 with a double, and Ethan Voss had the other Burnsville hit. Next up is another road game at Lakeville South, tomorrow at 4:30.
