Lakeville, MN — If you read the recap from last game, it will sound awfully familiar to you. Once again, a pitchers duel broke out this afternoon as senior right-hander Cole Voss dueled with Lakeville South lefty Justin Loer, a D1 commit to Xavier. A low scoring affair that eventually went to extra innings, where the Cougars won it 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th on a walk off double by Loer. Cole Voss tossed 6 beautiful innings for the Blaze, getting ahead in counts and keeping South from squaring anything up all day. He gave up an unearned run in the first inning, on an error, a wind blown pop up that dropped for a hit, a hit batsman, and a ground out, before striking out the next 2 batters. That was the extent of the scoring off of Voss. He finished with 6 innings, 0 earned runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Senior Owen Geegan came on in relief to pitch the 7th and 8th, striking out 2, and yielding 4 hits and the one run. Meanwhile the Burnsville boys couldn't get much going against Loer, or reliever Kal Brohmer. The Blaze did show patience at the plate, drawing 7 walks against Loer, and pushing a run across in the 5th to tie the game at 1-1. Pinch hitter and senior Nick Hughes drew a leadoff walk, replaced by pinch runner Zach LaMotte, who stole second. After walks to Jackson Kieffer and Jonah Dawson, Ethan Voss knocked in LaMotte with a fielders choice. The Blaze were held hitless until the 6th when junior 2nd baseman Connor Quimby stroked a single to left center. But in the end, once again, the big hit never came. Quimby ended up 1 for 4 with a stolen base, Kieffer was 1 for 3 with a walk, Ethan Voss was 1 for 4 with an RBI, Ben Meuser reached base 3 times on 2 walks and a HBP, and Dawson walked twice and had a stolen base. Burnsville is scheduled for their home opener on Friday at 4:30 at Alimagnet vs Apple Valley.
