Burnsville, MN — The Blaze are starting to heat up, winning their second game in less than 24 hours, as Burnsville defeated Rochester Mayo 7-1 at Alimagnet on Saturday afternoon. Similar to last night's win over Lakeville South, the Blaze got great pitching, a big inning that plated 5 runs and some big defensive plays to make it a fun win for an energetic home crowd. Senior right hander Kade Bowar threw a complete game for the Blaze, going all 7 innings, giving up a run on 3 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 6. His breaking ball was especially sharp today, getting lots of swings and misses against a Mayo squad that was coming in on a 5 game win streak. The defense behind him also made some key plays to keep runs off the board all day. The Blaze offense had some rallies going in the early innings, but no runs to show for them. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th, the Burnsville hit parade arrived, and in a big way. The big inning started with shortstop Asher Giese getting plunked, followed by 7 straight singles, which plated 5 runs and chased the Spartans starting pitcher. With Giese on first, catcher Jackson Kieffer and right fielder Jonah Dawson both had line drive singles to load the bases. Senior designated hitter Jordon Sieben then hit a swinging bunt to score Giese. Center fielder Ethan Voss then roped a single to right center to score Kieffer and Dawson. Bowar then singled to right to score Sieben. After a Ben Meuser single, sophomore left fielder Sean Emerson drilled his first varsity base hit to left to score Voss. The Blaze plated 2 more insurance runs in the 6th inning. Kieffer led off with a walk, then Dawson hit a grounder that went under the shortstop's glove into left field. Kieffer hustled all the way to 3rd base and the left fielder air-mailed the throw, allowing Kieffer to score as nobody was covering home plate. Dawson made it to third base on the errors, and then scored on a Sieben ground out to second base. The Blaze had 10 hits on the day, showing that hitting really is contagious. 8 of the 9 starters had at least 1 hit. Kieffer was 2 for 3 with 2 runs, a walk and a stolen base, Meuser was 2 for 3 with a walk and stolen base, Voss was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run, Dawson was 1 for 3 with 2 runs, a walk, and reached twice on errors, Bowar and Emerson were both 1 for 3 with an RBI, Sieben was 1 for 4, with 2 RBI and a run, and Giese was 1 for 3 with a run, a HBP and 2 stolen bases. The Burnsville 9 are back in action on Monday vs Eastview at 4:30 at Alimagnet.
