Eagan, MN — The theme of the day was opportunistic! The Blaze continued to show heart with a back and forth ball game ending in a victory for the Black and Gold The Blaze jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with Neutz knocking in Emerson with a sac fly. Eagan came back to tie it up in their half of the 2nd. The Blaze then took the 'Opportunistic' theme in the top of the 3rd by scoring a run on a lead off hit by Emerson a walk and a bit of a problem from Eagan's pitcher and catcher being on the same page. In the home half of the 4th the Wildcats took advantage of a couple of mis-haps by the Blaze to score 2 and take a 3-2 lead. A quiet 5th preceded a pretty eventful 6th. The Blaze started off by Sloan reaching on an error followed by a clutch hit by Palmer. The Wildcats then proceeded to throw it around a bit allowing the Blaze to plate 2 runs and take a 4-3 lead into the home half of the 6th. The Wildcats then found their hitting groove and were in the midst of a big inning already scoring 3 runs when Jacob Norton recovered from an error at first and threw the potential 4th run of the inning out at the plate to thwart the rally. The Wildcats were still feeling comfortable up 6-4 heading into the top of the 7th. That's when the Blaze put on their rally caps and got busy. Benefitting with an Eagan error, Emerson reaches first, Limber walks and then Struzyk lines to center and the Wildcats play a single into a three base error and the Blaze tie it up. They go on to score an additional 3 runs aided by a very clutch hit by Norton to score the final 2 runs. With a 9-6 lead in the bottom of the 7th Neutz closes the door with a very efficient 7th and the Blaze win their 2nd in a row by the score of 9-6. Alex Thompson was on the bump to start the day and gave the Blaze an mainly efficient innings leaving the game with a 4-3 lead. Neutz pitched the final 3 after taking a back-swing by an Eagan hitter right in the head. This reporter's guess is it must of motivated him to some extent after a thorough evaluation by Coach Walsh to make sure he had his full mental faculties. On the offensive end, the Blaze were once again lead by a productive effort out of the lead off spot by Sean Emerson. Sean managed to get on base and score 3 runs. Struzyk was the beneficiary of a mis-communication on an at bat to go 2-2 with a couple of walks. Norton and Palmer both had clutch hits to either initiate or extend rallies. Sloan and Neutz continue to have quality plate appearances and hit the ball hard. Defensively with the exception of 2 wayward throws the Blaze were competent on the defensive end. Fun to see the continued battle from the boys. Enjoy the weekend and we'll see ya next week for another round of Blaze Baseball.
