Sandy Hook, CT — Newtown Nighthawks Varsity defeated Immaculate 6-4 on Friday. Immaculate opened up scoring in the first inning, when Sara MacKinnon tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Newtown Nighthawks Varsity pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Brianna Pellicone singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Newtown extended their lead with a key double by senior Sarah Kick, which proved to be the winning runs. Sydney Adolfson led the Newtown Nighthawks Varsity to victory in the pitcher's circle. The righty went seven innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out 13 and walking zero. Emily Rerick took the loss for Immaculate. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out 11. Newtown Nighthawks Varsity totaled nine hits. Katie Goyda, Adolfson, and Pellicone each had multiple hits for Newtown Nighthawks Varsity. Goyda went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Newtown Nighthawks Varsity in hits.
