Rochester, MI — Varsity Football: Adams Highlanders vs. Oxford Wildcats Final score: Adams 24 – Oxford 10 Week two of the Highlanders season had Adams hosting Oxford at home. The Highlanders kick off and the Wildcats start with the ball on their own 35-yard line. Oxford tries to test the middle of the defense with runs on first and second down, but gain only five yards with tackles from Parker Picot, Hassan Murray and Brady Prieskorn. The Wildcats complete a pass on third and five to pick up the first down. The receiver is knocked out of bounds by Joey Shallow and Oxford has first and ten at the 50. They pick up five on the first-down run with a tackle by Murray. On second down, Oxford tries running outside but the Wildcats are met by Parker and Tait Picot for no gain. On third and five, Rocco Orsini stops them short. Going for it on fourth down, Oxford picks up the first down on a QB scramble/draw, with the stop by Christian Schomer. With first and ten from the 22-yard line, Tait Picot and Prieskorn stop the runner after a short gain. A swing pass on second down is disrupted by Alex DeGrieck and a third-down run is stopped short by Murray. The Wildcats go for it on fourth and two from the 9-yard line with six minutes left in the first quarter. A pass to the end zone is incomplete, knocked away by Joey Shallow. Highlanders take over with first and ten from the 9-yard line. Quarterback Parker Picot spins his way to an 8-yard gain on first down. Henke heads up the middle for a couple yards and a first down, then picks up another five on the next play. After a Wildcat penalty, it’s second and short for the Highlanders from the 30-yard line. On second down, the Highlanders fumble on the pitch, and the Wildcats recover, setting up first and ten from the Highlanders 30 with 3:58 left in the first quarter. Back on defense, Parker Picot stops a run to the outside after a 1-yard gain. On the second-down pass attempt, the QB is sacked by DeGrieck, bringing up third and long from the 34-yard line. The next run is stopped by Tait Picot and Marco DiCresce. With fourth and six, the Highlanders hold Oxford to a 42-yard field goal with 1:26 left in the first quarter. Adams 0 – Oxford 3 Damarcus Rouse fields the kick from the 2-yard line and returns it to the 30. Schomer goes up the left side for a pick-up of five; Picot picks up eight yards to the 49-yard line for another first down; and Henke gains four yards. Starting the second quarter, the Highlanders are second and eight from the 48-yard line. A keeper by Picot picks up the first down at the 43-yard line. Solid runs by Schomer and Henke set up third and three. A run up the middle is stopped for no gain, which leads to a big fourth-down attempt for the Highlanders. Picot rolls out to pass, keeps it and picks up more than enough for the first down. Joey Shallow explodes up the right side for an 11-yard gain to the 23-yard line. Picot makes an impressive run to the 6-yard line, setting up first and goal for the Highlanders. DiCresce gets in the end zone from six yards out behind a big kick-out block from Finn Tobiczyk for a Highlander touchdown. Luke Stockoski snaps. Nick Paterra holds. Colin Timko kicks for the extra point. Adams 7 – Oxford 3 With 8:18 left in the second quarter, a short kick is covered up by the Wildcats at the 37-yard line. The first-down run is stopped short by Brady Prieskorn. A second-down run picks up 13 yards after a tackle by DiCresce and Paterra. With first and ten from the 50-yard line, a run is bounced outside by Shallow. DiCresce and Orsini get a stop for no gain, bringing up third down. The third-down run attempt is stuffed in the back field by Henke and DeGrieck who stripped the ball, allowing Tait Picot to recover the fumble. Highlanders take over with first and ten from the 42-yard line. A huge run by Schomer gets the ball to the Wildcat 32-yard line for another first down. Parker Picot brings it in with a 32-yard TD run. The extra point by Timko is good. Adams 14 – Oxford 3 With 4:47 left in the half, the kick-off is returned to the 23-yard line, and Oxford is knocked out of bounds by DiCresce. A run to the left side picks up two yards, Tait Picot makes a tackle in the back field, and Schomer knocks a receiver out of bounds at the 42 following a completed pass to bring up first down. The Wildcats are called for holding and are pushed back to the 27-yard line. A four-yard run is stopped by DiCresce and a second-down pass is incomplete, with pressure from Murray and Prieskorn. A procedure penalty on the Wildcats makes it third and longer and a deep pass is incomplete and covered by Schomer. Schomer fields the punt for a Highlanders first down at the 45-yard line. A sideline penalty moves Adams back to the 30-yard line with a 1:32 left in the half. Schomer picks up three yards, Parker Picot gets five, and Henke goes up the middle but is stopped short of the first-down marker. The Highlanders try to draw Oxford off sides, but no luck. Parker Picot punts on fourth down, bringing up a Wildcats first and ten at the 35-yard line. DiCresce makes a tackle after a 12-yard pass, with 11 seconds left in the quarter. The Highlanders rush, with a QB sack by Prieskorn to end the first half. The Highlanders receive the kick to start the second half. The return is fumbled out of bounds, bringing up first and ten from the 18-yard line. A pitch to Shallow gets a five-yard pick-up; a second-down pass attempt is incomplete; and Parker Picot picks up the first down after a bobbled snap. Henke makes an impressive nine-yard run to the 41-yard line and Parker scrambles for the first down. From the 47-yard line, Picot keeps it up the right side for another first down. Schomer picks up six and Henke has a big run to the 15-yard line. The ball is moved back on a penalty. After the 10-yard markup from the spot of the foul, the Highlanders manage a first and ten from the 30-yard line. Henke’s run off the left side comes behind big blocks from Nick Stokan, Finn Tobicyzk and Andrew Rolfs. Henke scores from 30 yards out. The extra point by Timko is good. Adams 21 – Oxford 3 With 7:40 left in the third quarter, Braedy Limke gets the tackle on the kickoff with the Wildcats at the 23-yard line. There is a short gain on first down with tackles by Tait Picot and Orsini. The second and nine run is stopped by DiCresce and Paterra, bringing up third and two. Another tackle by DiCresce follows and a first-down pass attempt from the 31-yard line is knocked away by Paterra. The second-down carry is stopped by Parker Picot, bringing up third and four. A QB keeper gets the first down at the 43-yard line. Shallow gets a tackle on a seven-yard run and a second-down run is stuffed by DeGrieck for a pick-up of one. Tait Picot gets the tackle at the 44-yard line, but the Wildcats have first and ten. The first-down pass is incomplete, pressured by DeGrieck. The second and ten pitch to the right side is stopped by Paterra for a short gain, which leads to a completed pass to the 39-yard line for a Wildcat first and ten. Tait Picot’s tackle holds them to a one-yard gain; a pass is knocked away by Parker Picot; and DiCresce knocks a runner out of bounds at the 20-yard line. A first-down penalty makes it first and fifteen from the 25-yard line. A big tackle by Max Cibor for no gain ends the third quarter. To start the fourth quarter, a second-down pass attempt results in intentional grounding on the QB, thanks to pressure from Cibor, bringing up third and long from the 45-yard line. The quarterback scrambles on third down and is knocked out of bounds by Cibor. A penalty against the Highlanders moves the ball to the 25-yard line, setting up fourth and five for the Wildcats. A great sack by DeGrieck allows the Highlanders to take over from the 36-yard line. Shallow gets a short gain and Picot has a big run to bring the ball across the midfield to the 42-yard line for a first down. Henke busts one up the middle and gets the ball to the Wildcats 29 for another first down, followed by Shallow’s short run. Paterra at QB keeps the ball for third and four. A block on the left side by Will Krol sets up a first-down run for Schomer to the 19-yard line. Paterra keeps it up the middle and gets the ball out to the 14. A short gain by Henke brings up third and four and a penalty on the Highlanders is declined setting up fourth down. A 30-yard field goal kick by Timko is good. Adams 24 – Oxford 3 With 6:28 left in the game, Timko kicks to the Wildcats. A deep pass on first down is incomplete with Schomer on the coverage. The second-down pass attempt is complete and the receiver is knocked out of bounds by Cibor for first and ten at the 50-yard line. Another first-down pass is complete but the receiver is hit immediately by Schomer for no gain. An additional pass has Shallow and Cibor on the tackle for a gain of only three on the play, then a third-down pass is incomplete bringing up fourth and seven. Following a mighty sack by DeGrieck, the Highlanders take over from our 49-yard line. With a Highlanders first and ten, Stockoski picks up three yards, Jacob Spinks goes up the middle for four yards, and an explosive run by Rouse down to the 2-yard line is brought back by a penalty. An interception is returned by the Wildcats for an Oxford TD. Adams 24 – Oxford 10 With 2:13 left in the game, the Highlanders are back on offense. An onside kick is recovered by Picot at the 36-yard line. Shallow picks up a yard and Henke makes a big run to the 47-yard line for the first down. The Highlanders go into victory formation and run out the clock to end the game.
