Rochester, MI — Last week the Highlanders increased their winning streak with a 28-20 hard fought victory over Oak Park. Ferris started the excitement in the first 2 1/2 minutes of the game scoring on a long run for the first TD. Highlanders defense battled against some big Oak Park boys, but Stevanovski was still able to get through for a sac. With 4:08 left in the first, Oak Park scored - but the 2 point conversion attempt was stopped by King. King ended the 1Q with a long carry that set the JV team up for an early 2nd Q TD by Heppner. Watters and Ferris both had strong carries but unfortunately Oak Park defense stopped the Highlanders. The momentum shifted back to the Highlanders when they took possession with seven seconds left from a blocked punt by Yu. Great blocking by the offensive line (Hart, Sawyer, Barghouty, Reszewski, Bolach) allowed Heppner his 2nd TD of the night. Going into the 3rd Q - Highlanders led 22-6. Adams defense remained strong causing Oak Park to have a turnover on downs. Hart was a beast on defense - causing problems for Oak Park. Hess also working hard on defense stopped Oak Park at the 5 yrd line after a long run by OP - but unfortunately they scored ending the 3rd Q at 21-12. King started the 4th Q with a long run setting up Ferris with his 2nd TD. Watters had 3 good kicks for the night for extra points. Oak Park responded with another TD and a successful 2 point conversion but it still wasn’t enough as Highlanders claimed the victory! Next up - crosstown rivalry against Rochester HS at RHS on Thursday (9/16) at 6:30 pm. Come cheer on the JV squad as they fight to remain undefeated. — Recap by: Tammie Watters
