Rochester, MI — Varsity Football Game Summary. October 8, 2021. Rochester Adams celebrated senior night at Highlander Stadium to recognize 25 players during their last regular season home game. We congratulate the Class of 2022 on their farewell season. Welcoming the Birmingham Groves Falcons, Adams kicks off to start the game. Colin Timko’s kick is returned to the 33-yard line and the stop is made by Braedy Limke and Max Cibor. The series consisted of a two-yard gain with a tackle by Nick Paterra; a loss of one yard, thanks to Alex DeGrieck and Rocco Orsini; an incomplete pass with coverage by Joey Shallow; and a fourth-down punt with a fair catch by Christian Schomer. The Highlanders take over on offense from the 34-yard line. Paterra at quarterback runs the ball three times, on the left side for a gain of four, to the right side for a gain of five, and back to the right for another five and a first down. With first and ten from our own 49-yard line, Griffin Henke runs up the middle for a gain of four. Joey Shallow gets two more yards, and on third down, Paterra runs for more than 15 yards, advancing the ball inside the Falcon 30. Two short Highlander gains set up third and six, and Paterra finds a lane up the middle to pick up seven yards and the first down. From the 19-yard line, Schomer makes a big nine-yard advance. On second down, Paterra runs the ball nine yards for a Highlander touchdown! Timko’s point after is good, with Luke Stockoski on the snap and Paterra on the hold. The offensive line on the TD drive had great performances from Andrew Rolfs, Finn Tobiczyk, Nick Stokan, Orsini and DeGrieck. Rochester Adams 7 – Birmingham Groves 0 With 3:33 left in the first quarter, Timko sends the ball into the end zone for a touch back and the Falcons start from the 20-yard line. A six-yard run is stopped by Shallow, a second-down pass is incomplete, and a third-down pass results in a first down, with a tackle by Shallow. The next run is stopped for just one yard by Stockoski and Tate Picot, and a two-yard gain is stopped by Stockoski and Brady Prieskorn to end the first quarter. At the 41-yard line, Falcons have first and ten. A four-yard run and an 11-yard run bring up another first down. A three-yard pass is followed by a three-yard run, brought down by Orsini, who stops the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage on third down for no gain. On fourth and four, the Falcons jump offsides and elect to punt with fourth and nine. Schomer makes the fair catch at the 15. The Highlanders take over at the 15 with 8:33 left in the first half. On first down, Shallow busts out with a 45-yard gain, taking the ball down to the Falcon 40 for a first down. Henke picks up nine, and Paterra gains another six on second down. A fumble on third down is recovered by the Falcons. Falcons take over from their own 17-yard line with 6:15 left in the half. Schomer makes a tackle following a seven-yard pass, and the second-down pass is incomplete, thanks to Schomer again on the coverage. A pass-interference penalty gives the Falcons first down at the 42. DeGrieck makes a tackle to stop a four-yard run and a second-down pass gains one yard. The Groves quarterback gets outside for a long TD run and the extra point is good. Rochester Adams 7 – Birmingham Groves 7 With 3:50 left to play in the half, Tait Picot fair catches the kickoff and the Highlanders start from the 30. Paterra keeps the ball for six, and a pass is incomplete, just out of the reach of Schomer. On third down, Schomer gains four yards and a first down at the 40. Adams goes back to the air on first down but Paterra’s pass to Marco DiCresce is incomplete. A QB keeper picks up three and a third-down pass is complete to Prieskorn for a gain of 14. Prieskorn gets out of bounds to stop the clock. The Highlanders find themselves in Falcon territory with the ball at the 42-yard line and 1:31 left in the half. On first down, Paterra delivers a strike to Shallow for a 43-yard TD catch. Timko’s extra point is good. Rochester Adams 14 – Birmingham Groves 7 Timko booms the kickoff for a touch back and the Falcons start their next drive at the 20 with 1:24 to go in the half. The QB is forced out of the pocket by DeGreick and Hassan Murray, and Henke gets the sack. A late hit results in a targeting call and ejection of #1 for the Falcons. On second and 20, the running back is tripped up by Tanner Buck and tackled by Paterra and DiCresce after a gain of 10. On third down, after an Adams timeout, the Falcons attempt a pass but the QB is sacked by DeGrieck for a loss of five. The fourth-down punt is downed at the Falcons 37, leaving the Highlanders with 52 seconds. Back on offense, Paterra passes to Prieskorn for 12 yards. Prieskorn gets out of bounds to stop the clock and gives the Highlanders first and ten at the 25. With great protection from the o-line, Paterra takes to the air again to find Christian on the deep post route. TD Paterra to Schomer! Timko’s point after attempt is good. Rochester Adams 21 – Birmingham Groves 7 With just 0:42 left in the second quarter, Timko’s kick is fielded at the 2-yard line and the returner is stopped by Max Cibor at the 17. After an offsides call on the Falcons, the run is stopped by Tate Picot for no gain and the clock runs out for halftime. Halftime: Rochester Adams 21 – Birmingham Groves 7 The second-half kickoff has Shallow returning the ball 15 yards to the 29. On first down, Schomer breaks a few tackles to get a big gain, but the play is brought back on a penalty. On first and 20, Paterra gains five, but pass attempts on second and third down are incomplete, forcing a punt. Picot’s punt is fielded at the 31 and after a nice open-field tackle by Damarcus Rouse, the Falcons are limited to only six yards. Falcons take over with first and ten from their own 37-yard line. A two-yard run is stopped by Orsini; Schomer and Broder Kawa stop the run for a loss of one yard; and a third-down pass is complete for six yards, with Picot on the tackle. A 10-yard pass is stopped by Paterra and Cibor, and the Falcons have a first down at the Highlander 48-yard line. Cibor stops a six-yard run; Picot stops a two-yard run; and the Falcons get a big gain on a reverse to take the ball down to the Highlander 14, with the tackle by DiCresce. On first down, the Groves running back is met at the line of scrimmage by Orsini. Henke strips the ball, causing and recovering the fumble for a turnover as Highlanders take over. The Highlanders take advantage of first and ten from their own 12-yard line with 6:12 to play in the third quarter. After no gain on the first-down run, Paterra picks up 13 to give the Highlanders a fresh first down with the ball at the 23. Paterra gains another 11 yards on the next play, with first down at the 34. Short gains on first and second down have the Highlanders facing third and eight. Paterra completes the third-down pass to Cibor for a gain of 12 and it’s another first down. Now at the 49, Pattera picks up 16 yards, bringing the ball into Falcon territory at the 35. On second and ten, Shallow breaks a 15-yard run, advancing the ball to the Falcon 20 to end the third quarter. The fourth quarter begins with a short Adams gain on first down, but the Falcons commit a face mask penalty, giving the Highlanders first and goal from the 10. After two short run plays, Paterra completes a pass to Cibor on third, but Max is stopped at the five-yard line. The Highlanders attempt a 21-yard field goal on fourth down. Timko’s field goal is good! Rochester Adams 34 – Birmingham Groves 7 With 9:19 remaining in the game, Will Krol stops the kickoff return at the 21-yard line. A first-down pass is incomplete with Schomer on the coverage, and a two-yard run is stopped by DeGrieck. A third-down pass is incomplete, as the QB is pressured by Mohammed Murray. The fourth-down punt is downed at the Falcon 35. Rouse picks up nine yards on the carry, and then another eight for a first down. From the 17-yard line, Jacob Spinks gets a short gain and Rouse picks up another seven. A penalty against Adams results in third and 13. DJ Greer gets four yards back and Rouse picks up four more but the Highlanders turn the ball over on downs. The Falcons take over at the 15-yard line with 4:18 to play. The Groves QB scrambles for four yards and is tackled by Rouse. The second-down run is stopped for a loss by John Rittner. A third-down pass is incomplete, but a flag for pass interference against Adams gives the Falcons first down at the 34. A 14-yard pass is stopped by Rittner, followed by an incomplete pass, and a pass for a loss of a yard, with Cibor on the tackle. The third-down incomplete pass is followed by a punt, that is returned by Rouse for nine yards. The Highlanders take over with first and ten from the 31-yard line and 1:23 left to play.
