Wachusett’s varsity basketball team earned a hard-fought 50-47 win over North High on January 18, 2025. The game was closely contested throughout, with both teams battling back and forth. The first quarter was neck-and-neck, with Wachusett finishing with a narrow 17-16 lead. In the second quarter, the team built on their momentum, outscoring North 18-8 to extend their lead to 35-24 by halftime.
On January 16, 2025, Wachusett’s varsity basketball team suffered a 59-48 defeat at the hands of Leominster. The game began with both teams trading baskets, but Leominster gained the upper hand early, finishing the first quarter with a 16-13 lead. Wachusett struggled to catch up in the second quarter, as Leominster increased their lead to 31-20 by halftime.
After going 8-1-1 in the first half of the 24-25 hockey season, Wachusett battled Roy-Conference rival North Middlesex tonight at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg and came out with a 5-3 victory.
1/17/2025: After a scoreless first period, St John’s found the first goal of the game early in the second period. The Wachusett team battled hard trying to find the equalizer behind great play from Owen Browne (So.) and Vaughn Lane (Fr.). Strong defensive play from players Abraham Smith (Fr.) and Cole McCarthy (So.), as well as great goaltending from Brandon Boulmetis (Fr.), afforded the team the opportunities in the offensive zone. Finding themselves down 0-2 late in the third, a last ditch effort of pulling the goalie led to several shot attempts, but Wachusett could not find the back of the net, for a final of 0-3. The team will look to rebound in their next exhibition at Groton.
