About Me

Coach Douglass brings more than 22 years of coaching experience across football and basketball, at multiple age levels, along with a lifelong passion for athletics, leadership, and developing young people both on and off the field. A proud graduate of Michigan State University, Coach Douglass earned a degree in Exercise Science with a coaching specialization, along with academic focus in Athletic Administration, Fitness Leadership, and Health Promotion. His educational background, combined with decades of coaching experience, has helped shape a philosophy centered on discipline, competition, teamwork, and personal growth. In his Younger years Coach Douglass was a three-sport, Fowlerville Gladiators athlete whose connection to football began long before high school competition. As a young child, he served as manager/ball boy for the community’s very first youth football team before progressing through the Gladiator youth football program himself. Right here in this, Small Town, is where his passion for football began. His dedication to the game never wavered, even while overcoming adversity, serving as varsity football team manager during recovery from ACL reconstruction/youth football injury at just 12 years old. At the time of reconstruction coach Douglass was advised that he would never compete in athletics again.  Through perseverance and denying to accept that, coach Douglass went on to compete in 3 sports (Football, Basketball, and Track) and eventually Nominated as Livingston County’s Athlete of the year.   In addition to his football background, Coach Douglass competed as a former Big Ten Track & Field athlete, further developing the work ethic, competitiveness, and mental toughness that continue to define his coaching style today. Athletics years are far behind him, however the lasting impact of athletics has travel through out the years. This is what drives his passion to coach, simply pass on the values and impact that Football can bring to young athletes. Professionally, Coach Douglass brings 17 years of leadership and relationship-building experience as an Account Manager and Account Executive, along with two years serving as a Youth Athletic/Recreation Director. His diverse background has strengthened his ability to mentor student-athletes, build strong community relationships, and create a team-first culture focused on excellence. Outside of coaching, Coach Douglass enjoys spending time with family boating in the summer/skiing in the winter, conducting speed and agility training sessions, passionately supporting Michigan State Spartans athletics, and continually studying the game of football. Coach Douglass lives by the motto: “Play the next play.” JPD A mindset rooted in resilience, focus, and responding to adversity with purpose — both in sports and in life.
