The JSerra Boys Basketball team put forth a dominant showing on Monday, as the Lions took down the Mission Viejo Diablos 73-34 to kickoff play in the Diablo Inferno Shootout at Mission Viejo High School.
JSerra is now 2-2 on the season.
Senior B.J. Davis-Ray’s 12 first quarter points sparked the Lions to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter.
The Lions' defense sparked a 13-2 spurt to open the second quarter, which ended with JSerra up 38-16 at the half.
Davis-Ray and fellow senior Jarne Eyenga combined for 15 points in the third quarter, helping the Lions push the lead up to 34 by the end of the period.
Davis-Ray finished with a team-high 27 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the field.
Sophomore Earl Bryson added 11 points, four assists, and two steals.
Eyenga and sophomore Simote Katoanga each tallied eight points on 4-of-6 shooting and three rebounds.
JSerra’s defense held the Diablos to 31 percent shooting.
