The JSerra Girls Cross Country team firmly established themselves as one of the top running dynasties in state history, as the Lions won their fourth consecutive state title at the CIF State Cross Country Championships Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.
It is the seventh state title in program history for the girls’ team and ties them with Corona del Mar High School for the most state championships amongst Orange County schools.
The Lions are now one of six schools in state history to have won seven or more state titles.
JSerra’s triumphant performance was spearheaded out-front by junior Chloe Elbaz (17:33.7) and senior Sophie Polay (17:49.4), as the duo croosed the finish line in second and third respectively.
Sophomore Reese Holley also earned an all-state award, as she clocked a time of 18:00 and finished eighth.
Freshman Kaia Streadbeck (18:25.1) and sophomore Hayden Kroger (18:28.6) closed out the scoring and placed 16th and 17th respectively.
The Lions total just 34 points (best among all five divisions in the race) and outscored runner-up Harvard-Westlake by a meet-best109 points.
The boys team also claimed state meet hardware for the second straight year, as the Lions finished in second place in their state finals race.
JSerra had five runners score in the top 35 and totaled 89 points, which trailed only race-winner Oaks Christian (61).
Senior Bradley Arrey earned all-state honors for the second straight year, as he finished sixth in a time of 15:19.5.
Senior Taye Newman (15:34.2) and junior Alden Morales (15:45.8) finished in 11th and 18th place respectively.
Juniors Luke Friedl (15:54.3) and Cole Carlson (16:09.6) rounded out the Lions scoring quintet and finished in the top 50 overall.
